Vocational Oriented Language Learning

Teaching English in Business and Technical Contexts at Vocational Schools and in Adult Education

20th October  – 2nd November 2012

This course is aimed at teachers already involved or preparing to get involved in teaching English in technical or business contexts in schools of upper secondary education and similar types of institutions.

Teachers with a classical language teaching degree (and little background in technical or business matters) and teachers of technical or business subjects (who need to incorporate English into their technical or business subjects) will work and learn alongside each other.

The course responds to a European trend towards more English language teaching in technical and business contexts (rather than literature and regional studies) and responds to a need to provide training for those teachers. Teachers of technical or business subjects should have a good working knowledge of English (approximately B1 and higher of the Common European Framework of the Council of Europe scales of attainment).
