Family Learning

For many parents and carers Family Learning is the first step back into learning. Our courses can help you to understand what your children are doing in school so that you can support them. You can also gain new ideas for working with your children together at home.

We have expert Family Learning tutors delivering FREE Family Learning courses.  You can choose from a wide range of courses including:

  • Courses for adults and children to learn new skills together in a variety of subjects such as languages, computing, health, science, history, learning through play, arts and crafts.
  • Understanding how literacy and numeracy is taught in school and how you can help your child to learn.  We offer Story Sacks, Help your child with I.T. Family Literacy and Family numeracy.
  • Courses for parents and carers in managing behaviour, parenting skills and Special Educational Needs.

We also offer family learning fun days across Preston, Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire, where families can take part in short workshop activities.

Family Learning can lead to you gaining new skills which can improve your employment prospects. You can progress onto qualifications in English and Maths.

You may want to continue doing a specific subject for yourself such as art, craft, computing or languages.

To find out how to join a class or set one up in your school, community centre or children’s centre please call the Skills for Life Team on 0845 6001331
